Ruth and her daughter Juliana Valentine McCourt (4 years old), were passengers on United Airlines Flight 175. On Tuesday, September 11, 2001, at 9:03am, United Airlines Flight 175 crashed into the southern facade of the South Tower of the World Trade Center impacting between the 77th and 85th floors.
In the cruellest of twists, Ruth's best friend and Juliana's godmother, Paige Farley-Hackel, had decided to go with them but ended up on a different flight. She was on American Airlines Flight 11, which had crashed into the North Tower minutes earlier.
